Introduction to the Art of Greenwood Carving

Spend a relaxing and rewarding day learning the art of green wood carving in the inspiring surroundings of The Orchard Studio in Dartington. Guided by award-winning craftsman and author Alex Finberg, you’ll learn to work directly with freshly cut wood, using traditional hand tools and age-old techniquescarve a beautiful kitchen spatula and a wooden spoon — both practical, tactile, and deeply satisfying to make.

Who is it for?

No prior experience is necessary, ALL are welcome, this is a friendly and welcoming workshop. This beginner-friendly workshop blends calm focus with creative flow.

What you’ll learn

You’ll discover how to read the grain, safely use carving tools, and shape wood with confidence — all while enjoying the slow rhythm of making by hand. With time to refine your pieces, ask questions, and soak up the tranquil and inspiring Orchard Studio, you’ll leave with new skills, confidence, and two handmade pieces to take home and use for years to come.
